Teach Your Children It's Okay to Be Wrong
- Encourage your child to take risks and try new things, even if they might make mistakes along the way.
- Help them understand that admitting mistakes is a strength, not a weakness, because the only way to grow from your mistakes is by first knowing what they are!
- Encourage them to ask questions and give input at home and school. Tell them that receiving feedback (or "criticism") for a wrong answer can be helpful and isn't meant to hurt their feelings!
- Remind them that everyone makes mistakes sometimes. Where they should put their focus is on the efforts or intentions behind their actions or choices.
- Help them understand that mistakes are a natural part of learning and growing. Talk about a mistake they made and help them see how they've grown or what positives came from it.
The next time your child is wrong, will you help them learn from it while making it clear that you still love them no matter what? Drop a “👍” below if so!
Thanks.
